Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Shelter/NFI Officer at IOM Burundi the incumbent will be required to work as a member of a multi sector team to provide WASH relief assistance to returnees, IDPs and host communities. The incumbent will be based in the IOM office in Ruyigi and will be responsible for supporting the preparation and implementation of IOM’s WASH and Shelter construction and rehabilitation activities in Burundi.
FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 1. Assist the NFI/Shelter Officer in preparing scopes of work, Bill of Quantities (BoQs), schedules, and cost estimates for training activities, construction, rehabilitation and dismantling projects.
- 2. Prepare, review, amend and interpret blueprints by using the software package AutoCAD to; draft plans and details; and modify existing AutoCAD drawings.
- 3. Provide on-site support on the training, construction, assembly on WASH/Shelter projects by carrying out regular site visits to check on the progress, verify the project is running within the agreed timescale and report any discrepancy to the supervisor.
- 4. Participate in technical assessments for the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities to respond to the needs of returnees, IDPs and host community affected
- 5. Facilitate the orientation of Shelter/NFI/WASH clerks and office support staff, such as drivers, in
- field activities in Ruyigi and other field locations including team weekly work plan, targeting, verification of beneficiary lists, distribution and follow-up in coordination with the direct supervisor
- 6. Support the mobilization of members of the community to facilitate the construction of WASH and Shelter facilities in a short timeframe.
- 7. Verify that materials are used in accordance with BoQ, keeping records and coordinating with the logistic assistant for request and delivery to implementation sites.
- 8. Monitor implementation of activities daily and organize regular Post Distribution Monitoring
- 9. Ensure weekly filling of the activity tracker for WASH/Shelter activities ongoing in Ruyigi
- 10. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education and Experience:
- • University degree in Engineer or Architect or related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience or.
- • Completed high school degree from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.
- • Site experience as consultant or contractor in an international environment
- • Experience in working with UN projects highly desirable
- • Excellent inter-personal skills.

- • Fluency in English and French is required (oral and written).
